Temple Style Lomi Lomi (also known as Ka Huna or Hawaiian massage) is the massage of the ancient Hawaiians, and as such, has a very strong spiritual focus. The term Lomi Lomi means "to knead", "to squeeze" and "to make soft" and the Hawaiians believed that where there was softness and no tension within the body, then there could be no illness.

It is performed using a combination of oil, breath work and long flowing strokes, along the length of the body and under the body. Forearms are used for the long strokes, while palms and fingers are used for smaller areas and shorter strokes.

Like all massage styles, Lomi Lomi is always tailored to the needs of the client. It can have a soothing, gentle flow or be deeply focussed, to work tired and sore muscles. Either way this massage has a profound and invigorating effect for the mind, body and soul.

With the soothing flow of each stroke, even the most tense individual can find themselves succumbing to the gentleness and spirituality of this beautiful massage. In some cases, people fall in and out of sleep, while others – still coherent – are so relaxed, they ‘allow’ their body to be gently and carefully manipulated, feeling all forms of tension melting away and any concerns they may have had prior to the massage, disappearing with each carefully placed movement.

Rituals Performed:
• A ‘Pule’ prayer begins the massage. It offers blessings and protection for client and therapist.
• A ‘Flying Dance’ is performed around the table, at the start & finish. This clears the aura of the client, enabling them to fully receive the ‘spiritual beauty’ of the massage.
• The hands of the therapist are then placed at the ‘Four Corners’ of the body (shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles & feet) to balance & ground the client, in preparation for their massage.
• A ‘Sweeping Motion’ is performed at the start & finish of the massage to clear the energy field of the client.
• Chakra clearing and balancing ends the massage treatment.

The intention is to always provide the best possible massage, in a relaxing, safe and comfortable environment. If you do not wish to receive any of the above rituals, simply advise the therapist.

Due to the spirituality of this massage, the client may experience any or all of the following post treatment - a profound euphoric experience; an intense emotional release; feelings of bliss, inner calm and peace; ‘light’ feelings are instantaneous, while the more ‘intense’ or ‘deeper’ emotions usually occur at a later stage, and can last for several days. All these experiences are perfectly normal and signify the process of release and recovery.
