Eastern Massage

Eastern Massage Therapy is a holistic treatment method based on the ancient principles and philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM views the human body quite differently to Western Medicine.

TCM focuses on the movement of qi (or life energy) throughout the body. Any problem within the body - an ache or pain or illness, is therefore seen as a disruption to the flow of qi. Any TCM treatment (including acupuncture, Chinese herbs or massage) is aimed at improving or balancing the qi. Qi flows along set pathways or meridians throughout the body and it is along these pathways that the massage treatment is focused.

At Therapy Masters Gill Staples is our Eastern Massage Therapists. Gill is qualified in both Tui Na and Shiatsu.

  • Tui Na dates back to the Shang Dynasty of China, in 1700 B.C.E. Tui Na is the Chinese form of remedial massage, and originally was used to treat childrens' diseases and digestive complaints in adults. Tui Na methods include the use of massage to the soft tissue, acupressure to affect the flow of qi, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal and ligamentous relationships.

To learn more about Tui Na please read Gill's article that was published in the Art of Healing magazine.

  • Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that is at least 2000 years old. Shiatsu utilises gentle stretch and pressure techniques similar to that of yoga to achieve deep tissue relaxation. Traditionally it is performed fully clothed, on a floor mat, and does not require massage oils. It is excellent in the treatment of headaches, sciatica, stress, back pain, sports or overuse related conditions. It also benefits overall health and is an excellent way to relieve tension.

We are now also offering three more TCM treatment options. You can now receive treatments in Moxibustion, Cupping and Gua Sha. To find out more please phone the clinic on 6247 0662.
