Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a hands-on healing method which utilises Universal energy to provide healing and comfort. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words, Rei and Ki meaning – Life Force Energy. The term Reiki is used to describe both the healing energy and the system of it's use.

Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan during the late 1800’s. Usui wished to rediscover the healing energy that Jesus had used during his time on Earth. Usui spent several decades studying the doctrines of Buddhism and Christianity. He researched historical documents, travelled to the United States and took up residence in a Buddhist monastery. Finally his search led him to a three week period of meditation, fasting and prayer on a mountaintop where he was “enlightened” with the symbols and energy healing system that we call Reiki today.

Reiki itself has no affinity to any religious belief or doctrine. It is a gentle healing paradigm that can be used by anyone, at any place or time. The Reiki practitioner simply tunes in to Universal energy and sends or gives out that energy to their patient. The patient simply absorbs the energy that they require and their energy systems are rebalanced. This concept is aligned with the principles of qi flow and meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Furthermore the practitioner does not need to physically touch the patient, and more advanced practitioners are capable of sending their Reiki over great distances to achieve “remote healing” of someone far away. The patient may feel a warm or tingling sensation on the area that the Reiki is being applied to. The patient will feel deeply relaxed, at ease and calm during the treatment. This feeling may also last for some time post treatment. Reiki is suitable for all ages and conditions.

Traditionally the system of Reiki is very structured. The original system by Usui was called Usui Reiki Ryoho; although today there are many different variants from this original form. It is an art that is passed from Master to student. Although some individuals are believed to possess Reiki naturally, an individual is only said to have Reiki after a period of study has been completed and they have received their Reiki attunement from a Master. There are different levels or degrees of training and attunement dependent upon the style of Reiki being studied. Just like a student of martial arts, a number of degrees need to be completed before someone achieves the level of Master.

At Therapy Masters a number of our staff are attuned with Reiki. Katharine Sale is attuned to Level One Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, while Linda Geha is our resident Reiki Master. Linda was attuned to Master in 2005 with Usui Reiki and Seichim (Seichim is of one the many Reiki variants). As an introductory offer we will be offering 60 minute Reiki healing sessions for only $60.  Please phone the clinic on 6247 0662 to book an appointment with Linda or Katharine.
