Two styles of taping are available at Therapy Masters: Rigid Sports Taping and Functional Fascial Taping (FFT).
Rigid Sports Taping is applied to the joints of the body to provide support and stability to problem areas. Taping is applied in such a way as to limit range of motion of the particular joint being taped. Taping is tailored to the client's specific needs, sporting requirements and anatomical involvement. Taping aims to aid injury recovery, reduce the risk of both initial injury and re-injury and provide peace of mind to the sportsperson being taped.
Functional Fascial Taping (FFT) was developed by Melbourne based myotherapist Ron Alexander. Ron spent 8 years working with the Australian Ballet. During this time he saw the limitations of standard rigid sports taping and developed his own style of taping which allowed for both the mobility and flexibility that his dancers required.
Ron soon discovered that his new way of applying tape was not only achieving the desired mobility, but was also affecting the fascial or connective tissue of the body. The application of the tape was allowing constant neural feedback and sustained load to the tissues. This in turn was reducing the client's pain levels and increasing their range of motion. Once the tape was applied clients could then resume normal movement patterns and undertake rehabilitation programs in a pain free environment. Clients are also taught how to apply the FFT to themselves. This then empowers the client to better manage their own injury, rehabilitation and recovery.
