In 1997 while I was completing my massage qualifications, Therapy Masters began life as a home-based clinic. After 7 years of splitting my time working from home, working at another clinic and travelling with the sport of Gridiron I made the decision in 2004 to settle my business into commercial premises in Canberra City. From the first days of the city clinic run by my one woman show to now being open seven days a week with a team of dedicated therapists behind the logo, I feel both honoured and proud. It’s amazing how far you can come in five (very short) years!
Personally I believe that massage therapy is always about more than simply massaging a sore muscle. It is about building a relationship with a person that educates, supports and empowers the person to take better care of themselves. Quality massage therapy is about helping you, our client, to find the balance in your life, to educate you about your body and how it works, and to encourage you to care for yourself with simple self care techniques such as stretching, regular exercise and hydration.
As we embark on the next phase of Therapy Masters I look forward to continuing my work as an ambassador and advocate for massage therapy. For such an ancient discipline we are still finding our footing in the modern world and the industry needs to continually push for recognition within the community at large. Hopefully as our world changes financially, emotionally and spiritually people will continue to return to health practices that are simple, effective and empowering.
I would lastly like to take this opportunity to thank each member of our team - Amanda, Gill, Richie Rich, Linda, Kath and Kyles. Thank you for bringing your skills, dedication and love to Therapy Masters. Thank you for helping Therapy Masters to grow, to reach new audiences and to help even more people than my single set of hands ever could.
